Period restoration and strata work in Carlton.

Carlton is one of the most historic pockets of inner Melbourne: grand two-storey terraces along the wider streets, simpler single-fronted workers cottages behind them, and a heavy concentration of apartment and unit buildings close to the university and the hospital precinct. Heritage overlays sit across a large share of the older housing, and a lot of the newer stock is owned through an owners corporation rather than by a single household.

Both of those realities shape how a job here is planned. On the terraces and cottages, our period restoration service handles council submissions and heritage compliance as part of the job, keeping original features where they can be kept and matching new work carefully where they can’t. On the strata side, we work directly with owners corporations and strata managers on common property repairs, waterproofing, painting and capital works through our body corporate remediation service, with one point of contact from assessment through to handover.

For owner-occupiers wanting more out of an existing terrace without losing its street presence, a staged renovation is usually the better starting point than a full rebuild.

Carlton comes under the City of Melbourne, which handles planning permits and the heritage overlay for the suburb; VicPlan, the state’s planning map, shows the overlays on any address.

Every project is managed personally, with clear communication at every stage. Foremost holds building registration CDB-U63719, and Robert is a current member of Master Builders Victoria.
