Foremost Constructions has been building extensions across Melbourne since 1965, now in our third generation of Registered Master Builders. Every project is managed personally, with clear communication at every stage, from a single new room through to a much larger addition. We work across the inner city and bayside, matching new work to the character of the existing home.

Foremost holds building registration CDB-U63719, and Robert is a current member of Master Builders Victoria.

What we do

Single rooms to larger additions

Single room additions through to larger, multi-room extensions. On period and character homes in the inner city, the new work is matched to the existing build.

Alongside a renovation

Extensions combined with a renovation of the rest of the house. Our Mount Martha renovation and extension and our Port Melbourne heritage renovation and extension both paired an extension with renovation work on the existing house.

How it runs

First meeting
A preliminary meeting to talk through what you have in mind. We welcome enquiries at any stage of planning, whether you have council-approved drawings or just an idea.
Documentation and permits
Quotation and estimation, then a pre-contract meeting and a Domestic Building Contract, required for any project over $10,000 in value. Permit applications and council approvals are handled as part of the job.
Build and handover
Construction, with progress inspections along the way, then a final inspection and handover.

Where we work

Do I need a planning permit for my extension?

It depends on the scope of the work and your council’s rules. Your local council, builder or draftsman can help you work this out, and we handle permit applications as part of our service.

Do I need an architect or draftsman before I come to you?

Not necessarily. A good place to start is with an architectural draftsman, to work out what’s achievable on your site. We can put you in touch with one if you need.

Will the extension disrupt the rest of the house while it’s being built?

It depends on how the new work connects to the existing house. We’ll talk you through what to expect for your specific project.

Do you provide a written contract for extension work?

Yes. For any project over $10,000 in value, a Domestic Building Contract is required, and we provide this as standard.
